She says My favourite constellation is The Emu in the Sky, an Indigenous constellation. I like it because it is unique and fascinating- it is not made up of stars, but rather the dark patches of sky that are outlined by stars. The unlit space between the stars of the Southern Cross make the head of the Emu, and the shadowy dust paths of the Milky Way form its body, neck, and legs. The body of the Emu in the Sky changes with the seasons- depending on the position of the stars, the bird can be seen as sitting or running. I hope to make a trip to Uluru, the sacred rock at the heart of Australia, where The Emu in the Sky can be clearly viewed without light pollution, in the spring.
