Fokkina McDonnell
Her Favourite Constellation:
My favourite constellation is Camelopardalis. Giraffes are now trendy, but it has been my totem animal for over 30 years. I bought the domain name in the early ‘90s. I blog on www.acaciapublications.co.uk
It was the cartographer Petrus Plancius who listed the constellation in 1612.
Fokkina McDonnell
now lives in the Netherlands. She has three poetry collections (Oversteps Books, 2016; Indigo Dreams Publishing, 2019; Broken Sleep Books, 2022) and a pamphlet (Grey Hen Press, 2020). Poems have been widely published and anthologised. She received a Northern Writers’ Award from New Writing North in 2020.
A feast of words indeed. I like this kind of work but am hard pressed to explain why. Something to do with the apparent disjointedness of the events and images which hang together in hollow space.
I enjoyed Fokkina’s delivery in the same way…as if we were sharing a small quiet corner somewhere. Unnoticed.
This feels new and innovative to me and I found the poems captivating. Even better, is the most beautiful reading & the wonderful voice of the author.
