Welcome To The Starbeck Orion Summer Feast Of Poetry And Artwork Day Ten featuring the poetry of Adam Strickson
A Feast Of Words And Image
Constellation
Perhaps a bit obviously, I've chosen Aries, The Ram Constellation, because I'm looking at a friend's sculpture of a horned ram's head as I write; it's my star sign and I've written quite a bit about sheep because I grew up under the sheep slopes of the Cotswolds and live near Marsden - famous for sheep all over the roads and filthy sheep jokes. I also make animal masks and though I've never made a ram (yet) I've made a bull and an elephant with horns. I like the way the constellation is illustrated with a ram's head inside its contours and of course the association of Aries with Spring, new life and plants springing up through the ground towards the sky. So many stories, like the Golden Fleece, connected with the ram too. I believe as constellations go it's quite small, like me!
