Welcome To The Starbeck Orion Summer Feast Of Poetry And Artwork Day Fifteen featuring the work of Dave Kurley
A Feast Of Words And Image
Dave Kurley
Dave has been an actor, a sales rep, a stand-up comedian, a dry stone waller, a singer, a civil servant, a playwright, a pub manager and a podcaster. Currently, he is a poet and an online English tutor, living with his wife, The Lovely Ali, in the slowly-beating heart of central Portugal.
My Favourite Constellation
is Ursa Major, or The Plough, or as my mom called it, The Saucepan (I’m sure she wasn’t the only one). She showed me how to find the North Star using the lip of The Saucepan. That way, she said, I’d never get lost.
Indeed we are
It’s all about Observation…The capital is deliberate. Whether you are a poet, or a playwright, or a sales rep… It’s essential for a stand up and even more so for the quantum physicist.
If Kurley is Dave’s given name, he was surely destined to be a comedian…but those observational skills added an impetus for me to read the next line in this selection of poems.
He had my attention by describing his subject as a misheard dad joke who became the minimum wage in his partner’s emotional economy in Supplementary.
My socks were both blown off and blown on simultaneously by The Entanglement Twins…It’s the kind of clever gag that might sink on comedy night , but on the page , if you get it, it’s superb.
I got it…New quantum physicists start here. Basically nothing is anything until it is observed, which means anything might happen and frequently does. Entanglement suggests a connection between things observed even at huge distances. Schroedinger kept a cat in a box which was both dead and alive at the same time. Speed Dating Events are still an unfathomable mystery…
